Leading with Cultural Intelligence
This text covers a broad range of material examining the relationship between cultural intelligence and leadership. The collection of topics seems comprehensive, but depth within each topic is at times cursory. The author uses extensive scenarios to help introduce the concepts. This provides an excellent launching point for classroom discussions. The definitions to terms at the beginning of the book are helpful to students unfamiliar with the topic. Including terminology at the end of each chapter, along with the chapter review, would be helpful.
The content and terminology in the text were accurate and unbiased.
This text is very relevant, especially in light of Globalization. Some of the references are a bit dated. An update as to the impact of the Internet and social media would be useful.
This text is written in a clear and easy to understand manner. Students should be able to easily read and understand the chapters. The examples make the material engaging.
The format from chapter to chapter is consistent. However, some chapters feel like there are too many disconnected concepts trying to be incorporated. You can see the amount of work put into creating these chapters; however, better connections between concepts would be helpful for the reader.
The modularity of this text is outstanding. Not only can the chapters used separately, but the sub-sections in each chapter also can be assigned separately.
The organization and structure of the material appear disjointed primarily due to the modularity of the text. If using this text in its entirety, linkages as to how the topics relate would be needed in order for students to understand the bigger picture beyond distinct concepts.
This text is free from interface issues. Tables were easy to understand. One link in the introduction directing the reader to case studies did not work.
There were no grammatical errors in the text. There were only a few typographic errors.
Since this text focuses on cultural intelligence, it is culturally sensitive. In fact, a few examples help to illustrate the cultural stereotypes.
Overall, this text has a lot of good content and launching off points for class discussion. I teach Global Marketing, so I would use sections of the text as illustrations to help students understand the differences among global consumers, as well as how to work with global businesses. The content, and associated scenarios, is very engaging and readable. This text would be a great supplement to my class.
