The Open Education Network (OEN) is excited to announce the membership of Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), the first Canadian institution to join the Network. KPU is Canada’s only polytechnic university and serves the Metro Vancouver region of British Columbia.

KPU supports a wide range of open educational practices, including its signature Zero Textbook Cost initiative. As such, KPU’s initiatives are a valuable addition to the OEN community, an alliance of higher education practitioners supporting open educational initiatives at member institutions and consortia across higher education

“KPU is committed to widening equitable access and catalyzing pedagogical innovation through the embrace of open educational practices,” said Rajiv Jhangiani, Ph.D., Acting Vice Provost, Teaching & Learning and Associate Vice Provost, Open Education at KPU. “We are delighted to be the OEN’s first Canadian member and look forward to sharing and learning with this wonderfully innovative and supportive community.”

As part of its commitment to justice and equity, the OEN welcomes a wide variety of voices within its community of learning and practice.

“The more perspectives we are able to bring to the OEN, the stronger we will be as a community,” said Dave Ernst, Executive Director of the OEN. “We look forward to the rich, vibrant contributions KPU will make to our community’s conversations. We hope this is just the beginning of the OEN community’s partnership with Canadian members.”
