Join us for the Senior Leaders Open Education Seminar on November 6, 2024. We provide you with the rationale, resources and recommended practices for aligning open educational programs with your institutional, consortial and state-wide strategic priorities. Speakers

Dave Ernst

Executive Director, OEN

Dr. Dave Ernst is graduate faculty and Chief Information Officer in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. Dave is the Director of the Center for Open Education and the Executive Director of the Open Education Network, which works to connect professionals. He created the Open Textbook Library, a catalog of over 1500 openly licensed textbooks.

Tanya Grosz

Director of Educational Programs, OEN

Dr. Tanya Grosz is the Director of Educational Programs for the Open Education Network (OEN). She began her career as a high school English teacher before transitioning to college-level teaching and administration and completing her Ph.D. in Education and Online Teaching and Learning. In her previous role as dean at the University of Northwestern - St. Paul, she spearheaded an open education initiative which led to creation of the first Z degree in the state of Minnesota. Most recently, she served as program manager and co-creator for the Certificate in Open Pedagogy, a program that highlights faculty-librarian collaborations to harness the power of open pedagogy for transformative learning.

In order for open education initiatives to be sustainable, they need both grassroots and administrative support. In this seminar, we clarify the opportunities that open education offers. We provide helpful definitions, address common myths, and clarify rationales. We highlight the potential to connect open education’s impact with your strategic priorities, so that you can create successful, sustainable initiatives. 

This seminar is offered by the Open Education Network (OEN) in partnership with the four regional compacts: Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC), New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE), Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), and Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE).

Seminar Background

Launched in 2019, the Senior Leaders Open Education Seminar was held in person with senior leaders from nearly a dozen Midwestern states. Since then, the seminar has been hosted online, reaching hundreds of Midwestern senior leaders. In follow up surveys, respondents overwhelmingly have said they would recommend this seminar to their colleagues.
