Comprehensiveness
This textbook includes the current and comprehensive nursing assistant curriculum information. Foundational nursing concepts and frameworks, such as Maslow’s Hierarchy are included. Each chapter includes interactive learning activities so students can check their understanding/knowledge. Examples of interactive learning activities are virtual simulations, case studies, exercises, knowledge check questions, videos, and a glossary. All subjects of the Nursing Assistant curriculum are included. There are some local differences in skills and knowledge that courses in the area might need to supplement.
Content Accuracy
The content is accurate and includes source citations. No content errors or biases are present.
Relevance/Longevity
The information in the book is relevant. The concepts included are all relevant for nursing assistants. The chapters include relevant skills checklists and video demonstrations of the skills within the scope of a Nursing Assistant.
Clarity
The text is clear and flows well. Nursing language is quite unique, and the textbook has included appropriate proper terms/jargon/technical terminology. Each chapter includes the terms in the text, but there is also a glossary at the end of the chapter that includes the nursing vocabulary.
Consistency
The terms and framework used are consistent in the book.
Modularity
The textbook is broken into chapters with distinctive major topics and then sub-topics within chapters that are appropriate for Nursing Assistants.
Organization/Structure/Flow
The Nursing Assistant topics are presented in a logical, clear manner. Evidence of constructive building blocks of content from basic to higher levels is present.
Interface
The interface is Pressbooks, and all navigational links and arrows are in working order. The images, charts and videos are displayed well and in working order. No confusion was found in the review of this book. There are numerous interactive components for learners to check their knowledge and refine as needed, and these aspects all have a proper display and are in working order.
Grammatical Errors
There are some minor grammar errors in the textbook. There are some missing commas, missing articles, and clarity issues in phrases and sentences. These are minor errors and would not hamper the effectiveness of the textbook. A 4.5/5 would more accurately reflect the book's grammar.
Cultural Relevance
The textbook includes diverse images and learning exercises representative of cultures, races, and populations. The chapter about communication could be improved by including more examples about communicating with people of various cultures, religions, ages, genders, abilities, and additional populations. This is not a weakness of the textbook, but rather an acknowledgement of how much there is to know about health and cultures and that a future edition could add more of this content.
CommentsOverall, the textbook is exceptional, and I would highly recommend using this textbook! Thank you so much for sharing your scholarship with all!
