    About the Book

    Semillas: Elementary Spanish II is an intermediate Spanish open-access textbook with reading, listening, speaking, and writing practice. It is a follow-up to Semillas: Elementary Spanish I, with beginning chapters modeling the last two lessons from the previous textbook. The textbook provides instructors and students with lessons, vocabulary lists, videos, PDFs, projects, and exercises.

    About the Contributors

    Authors

    Rachel Klevar is the supervisor of the GE CLAS Core elementary Spanish courses and teaches a wide variety of face-to-face and online Spanish classes. She holds a PhD in Early Modern Spanish Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Rachel grew up in Decorah, Iowa, and despite being a native Midwesterner, wholeheartedly loathes winter.

    Gabriela Olivares is the Associate Dean of the Graduate College and an Associate Professor of Spanish at the University of Northern Iowa. She has worked as a K-12 English teacher in Chile, as well as an elementary and high school Spanish teacher in the state of Iowa. Her home department is Languages and Literatures, where she specializes in Spanish Teaching and is an integral member of the Teacher Education Preparation Program at the University of Northern Iowa. Dr. Olivares prepares pre-service education students, supports local K-12 Spanish teachers, oversees 50 graduate programs, and advocates for diversity and inclusion at all levels of education.

    Giovanni Zimotti is the Director of Spanish Language Instruction at the University of Iowa. He is from a little Italian village called Cagnano Varano. He holds a PhD in Spanish Linguistics from The University of Alabama. After graduating from the University G. d’Annunzio of Pescara, Italy, he received an MA in Romance Languages, Applied Linguistics track and an MA in Foreign Languages for Business and International Cooperation from his Alma Mater. He is also a recipient of the 2021-2022 Collegiate Teaching Award (CLAS, Iowa) and of the 2022 Educator Award (Open Education Award, Open Education Global).
