Applied Combinatorics is available in several formats. The 2017 Edition will remain as the most recent edition for the 2021–2022 academic year. Since you’re viewing this page in a web browser, the fastest way to check out our book is to view the HTML version. This version should look good across the full spectrum of devices, although the occasional long equation may require some careful, creative scrolling on small screens. (With MathJax’s accessibility features, this is also the version of the text that is most usable by individuals with visual impairments.) The HTML version includes a few snippets of SageMath code that can be executed in place using the Sage Cell Server. The knowls that open and retract contain proofs as well as in-place reminders of things like figures, tables, and theorems that appear elsewhere on the page (or in another section of the text entirely).

  • The current HTML edition, which matches the source on Github, is the 2017.2 Edition, which corrects all errors reported through 12 July 2021. See the errata page for the list of updates made in this edition.
  • EPUB and Kindle: New for 2021–2022! The 2017.2 Edition of Applied Combinatorics is also our debut into proper ebook formats. PDF is useful for printing a small number of pages, but it is hard to read on phones and tablets when you don’t have internet access (and therefore the HTML version is unavailable). Zooming in on a PDF doesn’t change the page size, so you might need to scroll a lot by the time the font size is reasonable. Thus, we recommend buying an EPUB or Kindle version if you will be frequently reading offline on mobile devices. You can buy a Kindle version of Applied Combinatorics from the Kindle store. Apple Books access to an EPUB version is pending. Other EPUB marketplaces are available as well. Please note that the EPUB and Kindle versions have been worked with separately because of idiosyncrasies in how the different readers handle math content. If you plan to read on a Kindle device, you really must buy the Kindle format. Since Kindle apps are available for most phones and tablets, you can also read the Kindle version very well in those apps. To use eBook readers other than those provided by Amazon, you will want the EPUB format. (Unfortunately, Barnes & Noble is clinging to an outdated EPUB standard for their nook devices, so we are unable to offer a nook version at this time.) EPUB and Kindle pricing is US$7.99.
  • PDF: We strongly recommend the HTML version for reading on screens of all sizes. However, it can be handy to have the PDF available in case someone with the print copy refers to a page number instead of a section. Thus, we do make a PDF of the 2017 Edition of Applied Combinatorics available. Earlier editions also remain available. (Note that the errata corrected for the 2017.1 and 2017.2 Editions were not corrected for the PDF.)
  • Print: If you’re interested in a physical copy of the book, one is available. In printed form, the book is 391 pages long and grayscale. The ISBN13 is 978-1973702719. Note that the errata corrected for the 2017.1 and 2017.2 Editions were not corrected in the print version. The print version is available from Amazon (both in the US and Europe) as well as other online retailers. To compare prices, try BooksPrice. If you’re interested in having your campus bookstore order copies for students to purchase, the ISBN13 above should suffice. List price is US$16.95/£13.95/€17 (incl. VAT)/¥2000 (incl. VAT)/CA$23.99. (We do make a small amount in royalties from the print edition, which covers web hosting)
