About the Book
There are currently no open-resource textbooks that offer an introduction to the field of exercise science, specifically the four essential areas: clinical skills, research skills, professional behaviors, and career exploration. This textbook integrates these four areas into a single, accessible resource. By emphasizing real-world application rather than abstract description, this text will serve as a meaningful bridge for students entering the major, helping them build confidence, skills, and serve as a resource early in their academic journey. The textbook includes around 65 chapters within the four areas. Content is presented in digestible chapters supported by examples, scenarios, and step-by-step guidance. Each chapter concludes with review questions and brief applied activities to reinforce learning, encourage reflection, and develop skill-based readiness. An associated lab book with activities provides students will the opportunity to connect reading material with hands-on learning. This textbook provides clear, intentional support in understanding professional behavior, identifying potential career paths, and beginning to interpret research.
